Wickerwork Exhibition

According to archeological discoveries, basketry objects are the first containers that man would have made after the jars carved in stone. Man would have woven plant fibers to make objects that were used to transport and preserve his food.

In Lebanon, basketry was very present in rural areas to transport crops or building materials, for food processing and as everyday objects (mats, trays, scales...) or rituals (prayer mats).

The raw material used consisted of the following plant fibers: date palm leaves, wheat cobs, corn husks, halfa and rushes. Basketry of modern and ancient pieces (gifts to the museum) were presented.

The exhibition was followed by a publication by Nour Majdalani "Basketry - Homage to the Artisans of Lebanon".
